Members of the Newent Orchestra invite other players to join us for this day of musical exploration, conducted by Tobias Lazenbury, MD of the Newent Orchestra, and Fiona Crawley, MD of the Royal Forest of Dean Orchestra.
Cost: £15 (members, £10)
Pay on the day (contactless available),
but advance booking essential.

The day will include a talk about our three programme pieces, given by the Chairman and
Founder of the Holst Society, Chris Cope
.

He will also talk about the Society’s plans for the Holst 150th birthday anniversary, which falls next year.

You can download your part (free) from the Petrucci Library website. Let us know if you have any difficulty doing this. If you haven't used this service before, watch a short Youtube video to help you.

Phil Harding, violin maker
Newent luthier, Phil Harding, maker and repairer of fine violins and violas, will set up a demonstration in the hall, and will provide a service for all string players' needs. Phil will be aided by his apprentice maker, daughter, Jo.

Bring your music, music stand and a packed lunch. Local shops, pubs and tea rooms will be open.

The day will include a stall set up by instrument seller, Godfrey Foster, and we are collaborating with Newent School's music department to encourage student participation and music making.

Malletstation
Bill Anderton will set up a 'Malletstation' tuned-percussion synthesiser, so you can try your hand at playing timps, gongs, tubular bells, vibraphone and marimba!

Final play-through at 3:15 p.m when the hall will be open for an audience of friends and family, free of charge.

Gustav Holst, composer born in Cheltenham
Next year will be the 150th anniversary of the birth of composer Gustav Holst, who was born in Cheltenham in 1874. Yes, he was English!
