Members of the Newent Orchestra invite other players to join us for this day of musical exploration, conducted by Tobias Lazenbury and Fiona Crawley.
Cost: £15 (members, £10)
Pay on the day (contactless available),
but advance booking essential.
The day will include a talk focused on our three programme pieces, given by the chairman of the Holst Society, Chris Cope.
You can download your part (free) from the Petrucci Library website. Let us know if you have any difficulty doing this. If you haven't used this service before, watch a short Youtube video to help you.
During the day, local luthier, Phil Harding, maker and repairer of fine violin and violas, will set up a demonstration and shop in the hall, and will provide a service for all string players' needs. Phil will be aided by his apprentice maker, daughter, Jo.
Bring your music, music stand and a packed lunch. Local shops, pubs and tea rooms will be open.
The day will include a stall set up by instrument seller, Godfrey Foster, and we are collaborating with Newent School's music department to encourage student participation and music making.
Bill Anderton will set up a demonstration of a 'Malletstation' tuned-percussion synthesiser. Try your hand at playing timps, gongs, tubular bells, vibraphone and marimba!
Final play-through at 3:15 p.m when the hall will be open for an audience of friends and family, free of charge.
