Please come and join us! We are a friendly, welcoming group with a wide range of playing abilities.
In addition to the opportunity to develop your musical skills and confidence, and arranging performance occasions, there are workshops, additional support and tuition, and social events, such as our orchestra picnic in the summer, and we have a low membership cost (see opposite).
Many members can't attend every rehearsal and this is fine, if you are a busy person or have family commitments.
In particular, we are currently in need of string players, particularly viola and double bass. There are also places for proficient oboe and bassoon. We welcome the young and the experienced! Just learning? Haven't played for a number of years? Join us!
See Newent Classical Brass for info. about joining our brass section.
Concerts, workshops and other events are arranged at local venues and the orchestra rehearses between September and June. Rehearsals take place weekly from 10.00 to 12.00 midday at Newent Community School on Watery Lane, Newent. The school has excellent rehearsal facilities and ample parking.
Come and join us.
Membership is £45.00 per annum, free for under 18s. NB, there are about 30 rehearsals a year, so full membership works out at a cool £1.50 per rehearsal.
Friends of the Orchestra are non-playing volunteers who help to make the orchestra successful. 'Friends' can attend rehearsals and receive the same regular email update as full members do. This is a great way for non-players to join us and enjoy the social aspects of the orchestra, support orchestral activities and listen to some music! There is a nominal £5.00 annual subscription. Please enquire if you would like to become a 'Friend of Newent Orchestra'.
