Zoom Audio Settings
Zoom is set up by default for speech. If it doesn't recognise any sound as speech it will filter it out. This includes music, so if you are trying to play your instrument over Zoom or listen to someone else play, you will need to change Zoom's settings to stop the filtering and 'Allow Original Sound'. Here is how to do this (there may be minor variations on your device).
For Laptops and PCs
1. Go to the Zoom website at www.zoom.us and log in to your account. 2. In the menu (probably to the left), choose 'Settings'. 3. Scroll down (keep going!) and find 'Allow users to select original sound in their client settings'. Turn this on. 4. Log out of your account. 5. Open the Zoom app on your laptop or pc and make sure you are at the 'Home' screen. 6. Click on the small wheel icon, top right (Settings). 7. From the menu (left side of screen), choose 'Audio'. 8. Click on the 'Advanced' button (bottom right). 9. Click on 'Show In Meeting Option to Enable Original Sound from Microphone' to turn this on. Close your Zoom app. Next time you are in a meeting, you will see in the top left-hand corner 'Turn off original sound'. This is what you want. If it says, 'Turn on original sound', click it so that it says 'Turn off original sound'. You are now set up and good to go. |
For iPads and Tablets
1. Go to the Zoom website at www.zoom.us and log in to your account. 2. In the menu (probably to the left), choose 'Settings'. 3. Scroll down and find 'Allow users to select original sound in their client settings'. Turn this on. 4. Log out of your account. 5. Open the Zoom app on your device. 6. Find 'Settings' (bottom left), then 'Meeting'. 7. In Meeting, scroll down until you find 'Allow Original Sound' and turn this on. 8. When you are in a meeting, touch 'More' and then 'Enable Original Sound'. That's it! Enjoy your musical Zoom session. |
Since adding this page, Zoom have introduced an updated version which now includes in the Audio Advanced Settings, the option for 'Hi Fi Sound'. Update your app and then when you have enabled 'Allow Original Sound' as above, you can then choose this, which further helps matters considerably.
