Concert & Exhibition
15 May, 2010, Newent Memorial Hall
The evening concert and celebration at 7:30 p.m.,
will include a short animated film of extracts from Rutland Boughton's Arthurian opera,
"The Immortal Hour". It will also premiere a new work by Bill Anderton,
"Telstar Revisited", written as a homage to Joe Meek. In addition, the
orchestra will be including in its programme music that was played at its very first
concert, to celebrate 70 years of continual music making: Beethoven's 1st Symphony (final
two movements); Merry England by Edward German.
Heritage Exhibition
The concert venue will be open throughout the day (free entry) with an
exhibition of history and memorabilia and a talk commemorating Newent's Music Heritage.
There will also be more live music provided by the specially formed "Boughton
Quartet". Sandra Meek, Joe's niece, has offered to be on hand during the day to
answer any questions and members of the Boughton family will attend the evening
celebration. See here for other exhibition venues and
dates. |
