Record producer, Joe Meek (1929-1967)Composer, Rutland Boughton (1878-1960), copyright Rutland Boughton Music TrustThe evening concert and celebration at 7:30 p.m., will include a short animated film of extracts from Rutland Boughton's Arthurian opera, "The Immortal Hour".  It will also premiere a new work by Bill Anderton, "Telstar Revisited", written as a homage to Joe Meek.  In addition, the orchestra will be including in its programme music that was played at its very first concert, to celebrate 70 years of continual music making: Beethoven's 1st Symphony (final two movements); Merry England by Edward German.

Heritage Exhibition

The concert venue will be open throughout the day (free entry) with an exhibition of history and memorabilia and a talk commemorating Newent's Music Heritage. There will also be more live music provided by the specially formed "Boughton Quartet".  Sandra Meek, Joe's niece, has offered to be on hand during the day to answer any questions and members of the Boughton family will attend the evening celebration.  See here for other exhibition venues and dates.
